Hello! I (29F) am heading to Mexico for a month with my partner for a long awaited trip, excited to explore the culture, natural beauty and of course the food.
We are flying into Mexico City and out of Cancun. We have accomodation booked for the first 20 days, then we are still deciding what to do next:
- November 1 – 9 CDMX for Dias de los muertos, street food tour, museums, maybe day trips to ruins.
- including 1 overnight in Tepoztlan 5-6th.
- November 9 – 11 Puebla
- November 11 – 16 Oaxaca City, maybe day trips to nearby towns/ruins/Sierra Norte mountains
- November 16 – 20 Mazunte (Oaxacan coast beach town)
- November 20 – 27 OPEN: Straight to Yucatan or squeeze in Chiapas?
- Option 1 Chiapas then Yucatan peninsula: by overnight bus to San Cristobal de las Casas for 1 or 2 nights, then onto Palenque for 1 or 2 nights, then up through Campeche to Merida.
- I’ve heard good things about San Cristobal and the jungle ruins at Palenque, but I’m concerned about the long buses being uncomfortable or unsafe. Anyone done these trips by bus?
- Option 2: Direct to Yucatan peninsula (maybe fly Oaxaca to Merida): Explore Yucatan peninsula for the week; ruins, cenotes, food.
- Option 1 Chiapas then Yucatan peninsula: by overnight bus to San Cristobal de las Casas for 1 or 2 nights, then onto Palenque for 1 or 2 nights, then up through Campeche to Merida.
- November 27 – Dec 1 Stay near Cancun before flying out, probably Isla Mujeres.
Very curious to read any tips!
